Russian Armed Aggression Against Ukraine

In February 2014, the russian federation launched an armed invasion of Crimea, leading to the annexation of the peninsula. By April 2014, russia had escalated to the next stage, igniting a war in eastern Ukraine (Donetsk and Luhansk regions), which continued until the full-scale invasion. After the initial invasion in the east, the conflict evolved into a protracted military campaign with numerous attempts at a peace settlement, all thwarted by russia's aggressive stance.

On February 24, 2022, the russian federation, supported by belarus, began a large-scale invasion of Ukrainian territory. Following extensive military buildup on the Ukrainian border, massive bombardments began at 4 a.m., accompanied by attempted landings and ground assaults from various directions (north, east, and south). As of today, russia continues its criminal war against the Ukrainian people, despite numerous international condemnations and sanctions.

Throughout the armed aggression against Ukraine, the russians have committed numerous crimes against humanity, engaging in what can only be described as true genocide of the Ukrainian people:

  • Daily shelling of Ukrainian territories using various weapons (ballistic, air-launched, cruise missiles, guided bombs, kamikaze drones, etc.), targeting civilian objects: residential buildings, schools, kindergartens, maternity hospitals, clinics, cultural landmarks, churches, and infrastructure: port, energy, gas, fuel;
  • Terrorizing Ukrainian populations in temporarily occupied areas (including children): abductions, torture, rape, killings;
  • Shooting at civilian vehicles, ambulances, and volunteer cars in frontline zones and occupied territories;
  • Torturing and executing captured Ukrainian soldiers;
  • Burning grain fields, shelling grain storage facilities.

Additionally, the actions of the russian armed forces have led to the death of many animals and caused significant contamination of soil, air, and water resources. On June 6, 2023, the russian army committed an act of eco-terrorism by blowing up the Kakhovka Dam, resulting in catastrophic consequences for the ecosystem and local communities.

The Fight and Resistance of Ukrainians

Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel are fighting daily in extremely challenging battles to secure freedom and independence for Ukraine, its people, and the entire civilized, democratic world. Thanks to their incredible spirit, resilience, and ingenuity, the defenders are bravely repelling the enemy’s superior forces.

Resistance movements operate in temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories, where participants resist the occupiers through acts of sabotage, providing information about enemy troop positions, and supporting local residents affected by occupation.

Ukrainian defense forces have been confronting russian invaders with immense spirit, resilience, and ingenuity from the first days of the war. They successfully repel attacks from superior enemy forces daily, conduct effective special operations to reduce Russia’s military potential, and actively utilize advanced technologies and tactics.

Air defense forces daily fend off attacks (from various types of missiles, strike drones, and bombs) by russian troops, including regular massive attacks. Ukraine's allies play a crucial role by providing modern air defense systems.

Rescuers work daily to address the aftermath of russian bombings and save lives by extracting people from rubble. They operate under extremely difficult conditions, often risking their own lives to save others.

Medical services of the armed forces and volunteers provide first aid, evacuate, and stabilize the injured daily. They perform complex surgeries, prosthetics, and rehabilitation, working to care for and save the lives of Ukrainians (both military and civilian). Clinics and hospitals across Ukraine are struggling to cope with the influx of casualties.

Energy workers are restoring damaged infrastructure, reinstating electricity, water, and heating in Ukrainian homes after russian attacks on critical systems.

Ukrainians have created a global phenomenon with a powerful volunteer movement. Numerous funds operate in Ukraine, relying on donations from every Ukrainian and many foreigners, focusing on:

  • Providing necessary equipment and medical supplies to the armed forces;
  • Crafting camouflage nets and trench candles;
  • Evacuating and rescuing people from frontline areas;
  • Collecting and distributing humanitarian and medical aid;
  • Assisting in debris removal after bombings;
  • Conducting mine safety, first aid training, and more.

The resistance of such a brave nation is truly inspiring. It demonstrates courage, unity, and spirit, serving as an example to the world.
